How to clean a fixed bridge?
Why should you use superfloss? The health of teeth and gums will be affected if you do not take good care of a fixed bridge. Since a toothbrush cannot reach the interdental space and the base of a bridge, dental plaque will accumulate on the adjacent tooth surfaces on the two sides of the interdental space causing decay of the teeth supporting the bridge. It will also cause gum inflammation and loosening of the bridge thus affecting the chewing function of the bridge and leading to discomfort.
Superfloss is specially designed for cleaning dental bridges. Stiffen end makes it easier for us to slide the superfluous through the gap between the bridge and the tooth. The spongy floss at the middle is more effective than the conventional dental floss in cleaning the dental plaque underneath the base of the bridge. The other end is regular floss which can be used to clean the adjacent tooth surfaces in the rest of the mouth.
To use superfloss properly, first, insert the stiffened end into the gap between the bridge and one of the supporting teeth, then wrap the spongy floss around the real tooth. Slide it up and down to clean the adjacent tooth surface, then clean the dental plaque accumulated under the base of the bridge. Next is the adjacent tooth surface of the other side of the bridge, so when finished pull out the superfloss.
If you take good care of the bridge it will last longer and you will feel comfortable when eating and also look better. When cleaning a posterior bridge you have to relax your face muscles so that the superfloss can easily be inserted into the back dental space. First, use the stiffened end and insert it into the gap between the bridge and the teeth. Then wrap the spongy floss around the real tooth, slide up and down to clean the adjacent tooth surface. Clean the dental plaque accumulated under the base of the bridge. Next is the adjacent tooth surface of the other side of the bridge. When finished, pull out the superfloss from the side. Finally, use the regular floss to clean the adjacent tooth surfaces of the rest of the teeth until all the teeth are clean.
Develop the habit of using super floss. In order not to forget cleaning adjacent tooth surfaces and to maintain the bridge you can use superfloss before brushing your teeth every night. In this way you will develop the habit more easily. You need to have more practice so that you can master the skill of using your superfloss to achieve good oral hygiene. Dentists like us at Hidden Valley Smiles are pleased to give you professional instruction on how to improve your oral health care techniques. However, it is very important that you develop the daily oral care habit yourself.
